      HEAL THE BURN

You can treat a minor burn, like a hot, bacon-grease burn, without medical attention by treating it with care:

Put it under water, not on ice.

      • As soon as you can, put your burn under cold running water for at least ten minutes or apply a cold compress. Do not use ice as freezing could actually harm skin tissue further.

      Dress it and forget it.

      • Cover the burn loosely with gauze and wait for it to heal. Don’t break blisters or apply ointment. Take an over-the-counter pain reducer as needed.

      When to get the third-degree.
Some burns can be serious. If any of the following describe your burn, call your doctor immediately:

      • A fever develops
      • Swelling, pain and redness get worse, not better
      • If the burn is larger than 3” in diameter, or is on the face, major joint or genital area
